In today’s fast-paced, digital-driven world, professional associations face the ongoing challenge of engaging and retaining their members. Traditional networking methods, though valuable, often fall short in delivering personalized and efficient connections among members. This is where speed networking matching technologies, whether virtual networking or in person, at SpeedNetworking.com can play a transformative role. By leveraging these innovative tools, associations can create targeted and impactful connections, fostering deeper peer-to-peer relationships, facilitating mentoring opportunities, and ultimately increasing member satisfaction and retention.

One of the most critical advantages of both virtual and in-person speed networking matching technologies is the improvement in peer-to-peer networking. Rather than leaving networking to chance at large events, members can be paired based on shared interests, professional goals, or expertise areas. This strategic approach ensures that each interaction is meaningful, leading to more productive conversations and long-term professional relationships. The ability to quickly connect members who can offer relevant advice, guidance, or collaboration opportunities enhances the networking experience, turning it from a social activity into a career-advancing tool.

Mentorship is another area where these technologies can be game-changing. Professional associations are often seen as key platforms for fostering mentorship relationships, but identifying the right mentor or mentee can be a daunting task. Speed networking technologies, with advanced algorithms, can match experienced professionals with emerging talents based on career paths, skill sets, and mutual interests. This creates a structured and efficient environment for mentoring to thrive, offering mentees the guidance they need while providing mentors with the opportunity to share their expertise in a meaningful way.

For professional associations, member retention is directly linked to the value members perceive from their involvement. By offering personalized networking and mentoring opportunities through speed networking technologies, associations can provide tangible benefits that go beyond generic events or resources. These connections not only help members advance their careers but also build a stronger sense of belonging within the organization. When members feel that their association is actively facilitating valuable connections and growth opportunities, they are more likely to renew their memberships and remain engaged long-term.

Ultimately, the integration of speed networking matching technologies is a win-win for both associations and their members. Associations that prioritize the use of these tools are better equipped to meet the evolving expectations of today’s professionals, delivering customized, impactful experiences that drive member satisfaction. By streamlining networking and mentorship opportunities, these technologies help associations not only retain members but also cultivate a vibrant, connected community that maximizes the value of membership.

In 2023, the opportunity to revamp and create a fresh experience should be top-of-mind for event coordinators and marketers. Inviting in new ideas, such as fresh takes on delivering educational content and new, interactive formats, can enhance the overall event.

The expectation for marketers is high and, if an event doesn’t match the attendee’s needs, they’re more likely to move on to the next. Below, we’ll discuss the importance of:

Updating event styles to create a fresh new experience

How to combine both physical and virtual event styles

The proper way to budget for events in the current economy

Some unique ideas for conferences and events are:

Pre-Conference Virtual Networking, which allows conference attendees to get a leg-up on meeting potential contacts prior to the event, saving time, zeroing in on those connections that have a mutual synergy with and breaking the ice prior to the conference event.

Campfire presentations, which start off with a standalone speaker, who then turns to the audience invite comments, insights, and questions.

Birds of a Feather, which involves a group of people with a common interest or area of expertise informally working together to discuss and alleviate pain points and challenges.

Human Spectogram, which involves the presenter asking the group a few questions and then having individuals move to an area of the room to reveal their answers.

A Solution Room that is designed to provide peer-supported advice on individuals’ problems and usually lasts 90-120 minutes;

Lightning Talks, which are useful in keeping the audience’s attention while multiple ideas are being presented in a short amount of time; and

Silent Disco Talks, which allow attendees to switch content tracks easily and quietly by switching to a new station on their headphones.

The last several years has confirmed that the one true known is the unknown. We never know when inside or outside factors will cause some sort of disruption, and the outside factors have definitely caused quite the stir in the past 2+ years.

The event industry has been forced to change overnight, and though much time has passed since we first heard of the word COVID, we are still finding that those changes continue to be a work in progress.

Event Organizers have had to roll with the changes, and in the face of all the uncertainty, the show must go on! We need to find creative ways to continue to engage our audience. But how do we mitigate the risk of an in person event being cancelled overnight as we’ve seen oh too often over the past couple of years. How do we quickly pivot an in person event to a virtual event or accommodate for an audience where some attendees can be in person and others cannot but still want to participate?

Technology platforms have faced many of the same questions with respect to supporting the events industry. We spent many years catering to in person events, and quickly had to pivot to support the virtual world that threw us the curve ball in 2020. Some of us were more prepared than others.

Speed Networking has been partnering with event organizers for many years, and one of our top goals as a technology provider is to make the lives of our customers as easy as possible. Or at least their lives within our platform. We have though through workflows. We have thought about attendees signing up and then not being able to attend a meeting that is on their schedule. We’ve thought about how an event can run on autopilot so that the organizer can also participate. And… we’ve thought about the need to pivot between in person and hybrid, and sometimes back!

With Speed Networking, setting up an event follows much of the same workflow whether the event will be in person, hybrid or remote. The execution of the event is where the path forks. In person events generate schedules with table assignments for participants to move around in a physical location, while virtual events create a schedule with private, 1:1 video conference rooms for the attendees to be placed in and out of throughout their meeting schedule.

As a result, organizers can quickly pivot an event from in person to virtual, or virtual to in person, with minimal effort. 90% of the effort is done when the initial event is created, and the 10% to make the pivot can be done in a few minutes.

Though we can’t predict the unknown, we certainly can do our best to plan for it. Speed Networking has worked hard to ensure that the show should and can go on, and we look forward to working with you on your next event!
